Written following the death of Vi Amos in 1996.
TO LOSE A FRIEND
To lose a friend whose faith is strong
Is bitter sweet for those who shared her life
We rejoice that she is now in heaven
Released at last from pain and earthly strife.
For such as she, with joyous hope of seeing God,
We have no fear, for since her meeting with our Lord,
The love of Him has guided all her ways
In spite of all her trials, He was adored.
Throughout her life she shared her faith
With others when they lost their way
Showing God’s own love to those in need
Teaching sick and sorrowing how to pray.
And now eternal joy is hers
As at God’s feet, she hears His every word,
Faithfulness to prayer and worship bring to her
Fulfilment of the promise of our Lord.
Although we weep with sorrow at her loss,
And mourn the absence of a beloved friend,
We know she has obtained the goal all Christians seek
To live with Christ in heaven at journey’s end.
