Written in 1997 following a very challenging residential holiday for children in need.
THE PAIN IS THEIRS
In speech, in action, in response to love, pain screamed from every fibre of their being.
In the love of God, we shared their pain.
In this rejection of us, we experienced some of the rejection they have felt in their short lives.
They showed us their inability to value themselves or one another.
Their inadequacy provoked outbursts of fury and temper which we tried to meet with consistent love.
We shared their lives for six days, and carry theirs and their problems in our hearts forever.
They shared our lives for six days.
We pray that they will take away some loving memories to hold in their hearts forever.
