A FLASH OF LIGHT
A flash of light that startles us from lethargy,
A constant tugging wind that urges us to shed our apathy.
A touch of fire to warm our hearts,
A gentle glow that somehow starts
Within our inmost being, we know not whence it came,
We do not always recognise its life-inspiring flame.
Though many understand the facts of Jesus' birth,
And many more enjoy the stories of His life on earth,
They cannot grasp the concept of redemption,
And feel the likelihood of resurrection
To be removed from all reality, a fairy-tale we choose to perceive
As the beginning of a glorious mystery for all who dare believe.
If only we were able to reflect God's all-forgiving generosity,
And in our daily lives shine out as beacons of His Deity.
Perhaps the Holy Spirit's tenderness
Could reach the doubters with such gentleness
That thy would find an overwhelming need of God's serenity,
And faith and hope would change their doubting into joyful certainty
