Written for husband Derek's 58th birthday
FOR A BIRTHDAY
On this, your special day, I offer gifts to you,
The everchanging sky and lakeland view.
Bright sunlight shining through the trees,
Soft fluffy clouds, moved by a gentle breeze.
Fields of golden corn with poppies peeping through,
Bright yellow rape, soft linseed blue,
Wild flowers growing over all the land,
Daisies, celandine and harebells, planted by God's hand.
Drink in the scent of new-mown grass and fragrant flowers,
The sweet fresh smell of gardens after showers.
Watch for butterflies and moths with patterned wings,
And listen for the music of the song the skylark sings.
Dragonflies of vibrant blue and green,
A thousand million insects never seen
By human eye, but all a part of God's creation,
Their life and ours a cause for celebration.
The chance to walk where you decide,
Along the valley or upon the mountainside.
By waterfall or river, choose and feast your eyes
Upon reflections of the sunset's rays across the sky/
Remember absent friends, for whom love still is strong,
The memory of others for whose company you long.
The magic of a baby's smile, a child's soft kiss,
Time spent with those you love, a warm caress.
All these things, together with experiences new,
Although they are not mine to give, I offer them to you.
They come from God himself, His care to prove.
Receive the gifts He offers and enjoy them with His love.
