A THOUSAND MILLION GRAINS OF SAND
A thousand million grains of sand
Reminded me of human life;
How each of us is pushed and pulled
Placed and moved amid the strife.
The agony and the ecstasy that each one feels,
The inner struggles we all face, each one so real.
Across the sea, the sand is trampled under countless feet,
Our footprints lost beneath the weight
Of human conflict, and no matter how we try to love
We’re soon exhausted by the effort, bowed in face of hate.
To live life to the full we need to spend
Our energy in coming closer to our God, on Him depend.
At the water’s edge the grains of sand are washed,
Packed together, made as one, their surface smooth
Each of us a part of all the others’ hopes and dreams,
Made whole, everyone respected and renewed.
As deeper grows the water of our Father’s love,
Our safety and security in Him is proved.
