THE GIFT
With each gift we give to one another
To celebrate our special days and years,
What we're really giving is a part of us,
The gift of thought, remembrance and our prayers.
The giving of ourselves is what's important,
Not the cost of gift and not the size.
The energy and effort in the choosing,
It is therein the value of it lies.
A hand-made card that says "I love you"
Will be kept within a secret treasure store,
And the book-mark lovingly constructed
Has a value and a meaning evermore.
The gifts we offer God are likewise valued,
Counted for their love and not their price,
Each moment given to God's work on earth
Responding to His gift of sacfifice.
Jesus is the best gift ever given,
A new hope for our life of sin and shame.
The child at Christmas if we can accept Him
Forgiveness bought for us with death and pain.
How can we give Him anything to equal
His gift to us so lovingly bestowed?
My whole life is the only offering I have,
The service of my hours and days for God.
With each gift we give to one another
To celebrate our special days and years,
What we're really giving is a part of us,
The gift of thought, remembrance and our prayers.
The giving of ourselves is what's important,
