GOB-SMACKED
I was asleep.
These winter nights, it's so difficult to stay awake.
I wrapped my cloak around me to keep out the cold wind, and let my head rest on my knees.
I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
The sky around me was filled with angels, praising God.
The light was so bright it hurt my eyes.
We all sat there, totally gobsmacked, too shocked to take in what was happening.
But slowly we got the message.
"God's Son has been born in Bethlehem. Go and worship Him".
We'd taken this path before of course, but we were so dazed,
We stumbled and tripped down the hillside,
Talking excitedly about our vision.
It was easy to find the place.
The biggest star you ever saw shone above it.
All was quiet.
I don't know what I was expecting.
Certainly not the straw, the manger, the animals sharing his bed.
Was this child really the Messiah?
