BABE OF BETHLLEHEM
Into the darkest night He came, the Babe of Bethlehem,
The Son of God incarnate, born to save the souls of men.
Could anyone remain unmoved at looking on His face?
For He is our Lord Jesus Christ, so full of truth and grace.
Secure and warm He rested in the love that Mary showed.
Those who looked upon Him saw the radiance that glowed.
Poor shepherds sent by angels and travellers, star-led,
Adored the infant King who lay where animals had fed.
Oh to be within the stable that first Christmas night,
And kneel before God's only Son, His face so clear and bright,
But we can share their gladness now, as in this hallowed time,
We come to worship God and find Him in this mystery divine.
And though we cannot see His face, we feel Him ever near,
As daily we are drawn to share His love, so do not fear,
We too will look upon Him when we take our promised place,
And worship Him in heaven, and forever sing His praise.
For this beloved infant is the Christ we crucified,
Who gave Himself for us upon the cross, and as He died,
The words "Forgive them Father, they know not what they do"
Came from His parched and tortured lips, to give us hope anew.
So worship now, drink in the joy of Christmas time again,
Our hope is greater still that that of shepherds or wise men,
For you and I have learned the Good News of the story's end,
That He, this Baby Jesus, is Redeemer, Lord and friend.“
